Summer Opportunities
The Office of Study Abroad is pleased to offer this list of high-quality summer language immersion programs. These programs provide authentic opportunities for students to immerse themselves in language and culture. The Office of Study Abroad does not administer or manage the application processes for these programs; however, all programs on this list have been recommended and/or vetted by Holy Cross faculty members. Students who wish to receive academic credit for participating on one of these summer programs must first meet their Academic Advisor, Class Dean, and the Office of the Registrar.
French Language Immersion
The Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC) offers summer intensive French language programs in beautiful Saguenay, Quebec, Canada. UQUC programs provide an immersive learning experience with small class sizes, experienced teachers, and opportunities to practice French in everyday life.
German Language Immersion
Goethe Language Institut designs German lessons based on the latest research in language learning by cooperating with universities. Your language learning progress is objectively measurable and the level you achieve while at the Goethe-Institut is recognized all over the world.
Spanish Language Immersion
Summer Institute in Hispanic Studies offers a summer Spanish language and culture intensive program in cooperation with the Universidad de León in historic León in northwest Spain. Drawing more pilgrims than tourists as a stop on northern Spain’s sacred Camino de Santiago, León is best known for its ancient history and magnificent Gothic cathedral. The Summer Institute of Hispanic Studies offers serious students of Spanish the opportunity to challenge themselves by taking a language pledge and studying in a small-group setting.
Intensive Summer Courses at Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo in Santander, Spain. Located on the Cantabrian coast, Santander is home to one of the most beautiful bays in Europe. It is the capital of the region of Cantabria, offering rich nature and landscapes combining sea and mountain settings within just a few kilometers. UIMP is renowned for its Spanish courses and qualified faculty. All UIMP programs. Language levels, and accreditations are in line with the European Common Framework of Reference for Languages.
