IN MOSCOW ~ 2018

Russian State University for the Humanities (RGGU)
Moscow, Russia

Holy Cross Professor Olga Partan
DATES: (Departure from New York City) Friday, June 8, 2018 with arrival in Moscow on Saturday, June 9, 2018.  Departure from Moscow on Saturday, July 21, 2018.
The Holy Cross Summer Program in Moscow runs for six weeks from early-June to mid-July at the Russian State University for the Humanities (RGGU).  RGGU is a top-flight university located near the vibrant center of Moscow.  The city’s rich cultural and historical destinations are easily accessible on foot or by Moscow’s celebrated metro system.  The Moscow program offers students the opportunity to dramatically improve their Russian language skills while they immerse themselves in the everyday life, the arts and culture, and the history and political life of today’s Russia.
The courses offered in the summer of 2018 are Russian language classes on the intermediate, advanced-intermediate, and advanced levels.  Language study is enhanced by field trips to theaters, museums and churches, along with longer excursions outside the city to areas of interest such as historic monasteries, Golden Ring towns, and the museum-homes of Russia’s greatest writers.

CREDIT:  The program will count as one Holy Cross credit. Students take a language placement test upon return to Holy Cross to determine the level for fall courses. The course also counts towards the Russian major and minor.
In Moscow, students live in RGGU dormitories.  There are kitchens on each floor and meals are self-catered.  Prices in the university cafeteria are reasonable for home-style meals; additional snack shops are located throughout the campus.
The estimated cost of the six-week program is approximately $7,600.  The price includes round-trip airfare, visa, tuition, housing, museum passes, tickets to cultural events and course-related excursions.  NOT INCLUDED:  transportation to and from New York airport, personal expenses, meals.  Students should expect to spend a minimum of $750 on food and groceries.  Very limited financial aid is available for this program.

INFORMATION SESSION:  Monday, September 18, 2017 at 5:30 pm in Stein 217.
